Iman Victor: The Robocop's smartphone!?

A company from China called IMAN, has made an incredible phone that screams badass! It's called the IMAN Victor. This phone has a refreshingly rugged fit and finish, that's built to survive through apocalypse. That's are my thoughts in this dope robocop style phone!

The phone is made out of a thick chunk of metal, probably a magnesium and aluminum alloy. It's quite bulky and substantial in the hand, announcing it's presence, nomatter how you hold it. It's around 218 gm in weight, which is bulkier than the rest. The back of the phone is covered in premium quality leather that covers upto the forehead and chin of the phone, on the front. There is a small metallic rear panel below the camera housing, that's secured with special screws. The screwdriver is provided in the box and you'll have to use it to insert dual sim cards and an SD card in the slots under that metal plate. There are 4 more screws along the for corners of the phone and all these hold the back panel very securely to the frame. The reason for such heavy construction is that it has military grade impact resistance, along with IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. This one is undoubtedly made for the rough outdoors, where we love dropping our phones.

You might say all these certifications are there on other phones that are far less bulkier, like the Galaxy S7. But the S7 isn't as rugged as this guy and besides, it doesn't have this unique and iconic look to it. This bulky body also sports a beefy 4800 mAh battery, so it's undoubtedly an all-day phone!

Other specs include:
  • A 2.0 GHz Mediatek Helio P10 processor
  • 3 GB of DDR4 RAM
  • Mali T860-MP2 GPU
  • 32 GB of expandable storage
  • 5 inch 1080p IPS LCD display
  • 13 mp rear and 5 mp front cameras
  • Android 6.0 marshmallow

Let's talk about those cameras for a while. The rear camera is supposedly the same sensor that Samsung used on the galaxy S6. So I expected a lot from this sensor and I wasn't let down, for the most part. The pictures were really good (coming from a galaxy user) with lots of details on them and great colors. Even in low light, the camera was able to pull out quite a lot of details, even from shadowed areas. Even the 5 mp selfies were fine, no major complaints.

Video however, is another story. It's pretty bad! The camera couldn't keep the same clarity in video, undoubtedly a software issue. The resolution maxes out at 1080p. It would be fine, if it wasn't for the weird smudgy, grainy footage that the phone tend to record. Turning on the Electronic stabilization makes things worse for clarity. Video doors become smooth but loses even more details. Don't expect a lot from those cameras while recording videos.

All around the BEAST!

The rear mounted fingerprint sensor is great, unlocks your phone in just 0.2 seconds. The UI is kind of sophisticated and cool to look at. It doesn't affect performance at all, so that's a plus. I'm just not sure about the software updates for this phone.

The IMAN Victor is 4G capable, and will retail for a reasonable price of $260.
I really do like it when companies like IMAN, try out different things to escape the norm, and end up with a great product for the consumers. This phone, the IMAN Victor, definitely has a lot of potential. It can only get better from here, via timely software updates for some camera and UI improvements. I would suggest you buy this, just for the sake of the raised eyebrows and OMGs that will surround you, when you pull this guy out of your pocket. At sub $300 price, I'm pretty sure it's not gonna break anyone's bank.
