Vertu constellation | A $7000 smartphone!
Hand made perfection! |
You've probably heard of Vertu before. They make luxurious and rediculously expensive phones, for the cream of the society. It's no doubt a high rollers glam of choice. They're usually made to fit with the looks of your luxury car. This one's no different. The Vertu Constellation (2017 model), not only has stellar looks, but packs some pretty respectable specs as well. So let's take a look.
The Vertu Constellation is 'handmade in England' like others in it's family. It has a leathery feeling body with a solid steel back, held together by screws. On the front, there's the classic vertu styled earpiece and solid buttons at the bottom. There's also a fingerprint sensor inside the home button. The phone feels a tad bulky in the hand, given it's 250 gm weight and 10 mm thickness. But that added heft makes it all the more premium to hold and use. A little bit of weight can dramatically improve the in-hand impressions.
A luxurious beast |
Let's go over the specs on this platinum grade flagship:
- It's running on a Snapdragon 820 quad core CPU clocked at 2.15 GHz
- 4 GB of DDR4 RAM
- Adreno 530 GPU
- 128 GB expandable storage
- 3220 mAh battery unit
- 12 mp rear camera with dual LED flash, capable of 4K video capture
- 4 mp front camera capable of 1080p video capture
Though the specs sheet I found says that the selfie snapper is 4 megapixels, I wonder if they meant 4 Ultrapixels. That resolution size doesn't quite match, if the sensor was megapixel based. Anyway, the photos look excellent. The rear and the front cameras are both quite capable and will get the job done. You can safely assume that it can take those million dollar selfies! (If there is such a thing)
The skin running on this phone, on top of Android 6.0 marshmallow is quite unique.
It has those unique Vertu services, such as Vertu Life which offers some lifestyle related posts and updates. And Concierge which gives you global assistance on different matters of your interest, like booking VIP tickets to a limited seat event. Check out more about these services at the respective links.

An older Vertu with the dial latch |
This phone seems to be missing the traditional Vertu turning dial, used to open up those small back panels, for the SIM card and the SD card. Instead, it employs the traditional SIM tray on the left side of the phone. There's also that Constellation button on the left, above the SIM tray. As usual, it's made out of a real ruby. That button launches the Vertu Concierge service exclusive for the phone's users.
A touch of modernization |
For the first time, the luxury phone maker has made a jewellery item with plenty horsepower underneath. It's nice to see the short line of its customers will get more for what they pay for it. That payment being about $6500! Undoubtedly, it's meant for the high rollers. But hey, that doesn't mean commoners like me can't enjoy it's existence. I'm a lover of tech and I find this dope. Pretty sure you'll agree with me!
