Giant phone!

This is the super sized phone from the house of Huawei. Packed with powerful hardware and elegant design, where does the Huawei honor note 8 stand in a heavily competent market? Read through to find out, in my honor note 8 review.

Design: The note is a name given to big devices and the same goes for the note 8. It's large form factor makes one handed use impossible. This is more like a 'three' handed device😂. This phone will definitely make you well aware of It's presence/absence in your pocket. That said, it's not shocking to see a phone that's 18 cm tall in today's market. The phone is 7 mm at its thickest and weighs a hefty 219 gm. But it is to be expected as it's geared specifically towards those who are drawn to large devices like tablets, but also want the experience of a smartphone.

Very well built
The power and volume rockers are on the right side. Both are very clicky and tactile. On the bottom there's a USB type C port with a speaker on the right of it, and primary mic with identical cutouts on the left hand side. On the top there's just the 3.5 mm headphone jack and nothing else. The phone is entirely made out of aluminum and feels robust and durable in the hand.

Display: This phone is rucking a huge 6.7' QHD super-AMOLED display at 445 ppi. The pixel density of this quad HD panel may seem low on paper, but trust me, it's one of the highest densities I've seen on a screen this big. Being an amoled panel, the colors pop out and are quite saturated to look at. The viewing angles are excellent and the display gets bright enough for outdoor usage. You won't have a lot of problems reading text on the screen, even on a sunny day outside.

Mid range performance

Performance: The honor note 8 runs on a Hisilicon KIRIN 950 processor, which is Huawei's home made silicon-chip recipe for high performance. It's the same one that we see on their high end devices and it's here on the note 8 too! Alone with the awesome CPU we have got 4 GB of DDR4 RAM and a Mali T880 MP4 GPU. There are 32/64/128 GB of storage options and there's expandability upto 128 GB via microSD card. Performance has been solid with this device. There were no issues with lag or stutters most of the time. There were minor glitches, possibly due to their emotionUI on top of Android marshmallow, but it's forgivable as the UI also brings a lot of 'stable' features to the table.

There aren't too many 'smart' gimmicks like Samsung, and the whole UI is totally straightforward. I feel this device is targeted more towards heavy users like me, as gaming has been quite an experience on that ginormous yet gorgeous AMOLED display!

There's a fingerprint sensor on the rear. As we've come to expect from Huawei, it's very fast and accurate. There are no issues to address whatsoever.

Camera: The rear camera on the honor note 8 is a 13 mp sensor with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. The front camera is an 8 mp sensor capable of just 720p video capturing at 30 fps. Image quality from both cameras are quite pleasing to the eye. Pictures are nice and bright with lots of popping colors. It struggles with exposure and dynamic range sometimes but HDR mode helps in those situations. You can expect pretty good clarity photos from the cameras of the honor note 8. It's not great, but not bad either. This phone is more of a premium mid ranger than a weak flagship in the camera department.

Fast charging with USB type C
Battery: The Huawei honor note 8 has a large 4500 mAh battery with quick charge supported. You can fully charge this battery within 2 hours. Battery life was actually really good for a display of this size. The phone offered excellent standby time and you can get about 5 hrs of continuous moderate to heavy usage on a single charge. That's great news for power users, as it'll easily get you through the day, no problems👍!

Price: This premium phone has 3 variants as I mentioned earlier:
32 GB variant costs 23,000 INR,
64 GB variant costs 25,000 INR,
128 GB variant costs 28,000 INR.
A premium phone with powerful processor and great battery life. Oh, and a huge display for media junkies. Seems to be a pretty good buy for the price!
