Huawei Quits Android and introduces Harmony OS

Huawei quits android
Goodbye Android, Hello Harmony!

The Huawei Ban is old news at this point, isn't it? We already know the US has forbidden Huawei from conducting business with any American affiliated tech providers and prevented direct sales of Huaewi products on US shores.

This usually would mean the ultimate death sentence for any other company, but I guess once a world leader in 5G isn't going to take this face down.

As you may recall, Huawei has been consistently putting out new smartphones from the past two years even after the ban, running Android OS (which remains Open Source and accessible to everyone, including Huawei) but without Google Apps.

Though the phones were downright insane in terms of performance and hardware innovation, the software controlled by a foreign body crippled their sales and their overall control on their own product's behavior.

The Still-Photography King!

But recently, the company has made the bold move of completely ditching Android OS and switching over to their own homemade Harmony OS Platform!

This is a far bigger deal than you'd think. With a proprietary software running on top of their incredibly powerful Kirin processor-based Hardware, they're essentially unchaining themselves from many foreign operating regulations.

Huawei has since revealed that this OS will be a distributed platform, meaning that it can run pretty much on anything that has an SoC in it!

Smartwatches, self-driving cars, other company's phones, you name it! If they had their way, given the amount of horsepower and inventory at their disposal, Huawei could easily regain and expand its "World Technology Leader" title.

The future will surely be very different for Huawei, but I'm not so sure this would do any favors to their foreign image.

People are already pretty skeptical of China Phones as it is, so a Chinese AI based superpowered device with Ultra-high resolution cameras running its own Software maybe even more nerve-racking.

Huawei doesn't seem to care though! They're confident in their brand and what they stand for, and seem to be doubling down on their principles.

Good for them, I suppose!

What does it mean for consumers like you and me? Gee, I don't know..
