PTron Boom 3 VS Realme Buds 2: A Non-Basshead's Perspective

The budget bass-boosted earphone market is filled with some incredible choices for the price. It's only natural that you would lose sleep deciding which one to get for your buck.

One such question seems to be around two particular earphones offering some top quality sound under 600 INR; the PTron Boom 3 and the Realme Buds 2.

And since at least one of you have this question in your mind (because I literally got one comment asking me to do this), here's my comparison between the two.

Build and Design:

Right off the bat, from the unboxing, I noticed the superior quality of the Realme buds. The Boom 3 just feels plasticky and hollow, maybe because they are indeed plasticky and hollow.

The realme buds have a nylon braided cable, solid magnetic earbuds and a much more solid volume/microphone pod. Boom 3's feel like a toy in comparison.

Then there are the functional differences, like the PTrons having one of those volume sliders which have their own amp, whereas the Realme Buds simply change the device's volume directly. 

Some people prefer that over the "gaming earphone" approach that the Boom 3's follow here.

In-ear Comfort:

Both the earphones here are delightfully lightweight and are very comfortable to wear. I did end up doing my usual earbud swap to one size up on the PTron Boom 3, but the Realme buds with their medium-sized stock buds fit me just fine.

I look more depressed than usual here.

Once they're in your ears, both do not feel like they loosen up or fall out, even when worn when jogging out on a breezy December morning. Just kidding, I was running away from a certain someone. 

I don't jog. Intentionally. Or walk.

Slow-killing lazy habits aside, I genuinely loved trying out both of them. That's what she said.

Sound Quality:

This is where things start to get a little interesting. Judging by my past experiences with the dual-driver kind, namely the PTron Boom 2, I expected a complete blowout here.

However, after going one back and forth with each one for a few minutes, I am pretty satisfied with both of their performance!

Carry pouch included

The PTrons have a much wider sound stage than the Realme Buds do. Their dual-driver design somehow gives them the capability of delivering a wider frequency range, which makes them sound a lot more spacious. 

The Realme Buds, like most other closed-back earphones, have everything going on right inside your earlobe. 

Everything feels tightly confined with these, and you don't get that juicy separation between upper mids and the vocals in a music track from your phone.

I also observe that the PTron Boom 3 behaves better with an equalizer than the Realme Buds do, just as I originally expected.

They both sound very good, but the Realme Buds outperform the Boom 3 in terms of "out-of-the-box-user-friendliness". That's a lot of hyphens.

The Boom 3 would still get my money, but sheer bass heads who want nothing else but thumping sound right out of the box might even prefer the Realme Buds more.

Microphone Quality for Phonecalls:

I am unsure what happened here, but the Realme buds have some of the crappiest mics I've ever experienced on a wired earphone.

The callers could barely hear me, let alone comment on the voice quality when asked.

I had no such issue with the PTron Boom 3 though.

I am not sure f this is true universally. I'm just sharing my thoughts here.

Final Verdict:

You probably already called it, but the PTron Boom 3 is the one that deserves your money more.

 If you don't want to deal with the difficult to tune, dual-driver, flimsy, non-magnetic madness of the Boom 3, then go ahead and buy the Realme Buds.hey're pretty decent too.

I'm only saying that because of the magnets.
